Liverpool are still in both the FA Cup and Europa League, while they also top of the Premier League table by one point from Manchester City. Neville does not believe that they will claim a second league title in four years this season, but suggests that Klopp’s side are more than capable of going all the way.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, he said: “Yeah if they didn’t have Klopp as a manager, I would say that might be as good as it gets. But with it being his last few months, and the energy and the spirit, you just know what’s going to happen there. I still don’t think they’ll win the league. But they could.”

It is not the first time that Neville has suggested that Liverpool could claim the title – albeit having favoured their rivals. Speaking after Arsenal’s win against the Reds earlier this month, he claimed that Liverpool’s frontline could see them edge ahead of the Gunners.

He said: “The (Arsenal) celebrations at the end I don’t think were of a team that thought they were going to go on and win the title. I think they were of a team that didn’t want to be out of a title race, and that was the relief that we saw at the end.

“I agree with what Gael [Clichy] said about the word ruthless. I think Arsenal, when I watch them, are a better team than Liverpool but I think Liverpool are a more ruthless team, they’re more ruthless in the final third

“And I think that could just cost them in the end, and that’s me having said at the start of the season I thought Arsenal would win the league. But there’s still so many signs today, so many examples, of Arsenal not having that killer instinct in the final part of the pitch that I think at some point in the last part of this season it’s going to hurt them.
